The threat model of aviation is changing.

Aviation is renown for its track record in safety. However, security and privacy create a new set of problems. We look at these problems from the perspective of security experts and aim to use our knowledge and experience to secure the future airspace.

We are researchers from the System Security Lab, in the Department of Computer Science, University of Oxford, with experience in a range of avionic communications technologies, thus far focussing on ADS-B, SSR, TCAS and ACARS. You can find our more about our work here.

Our research looks at wireless network security. Many avionic systems rely on special-purpose wireless networks, but have variable levels of security. We aim to analyse these systems and provide solutions which fit with their context.
